Among other comments negating Dunham’s claim that her nudity is intended to represent real life, Rivers, in a voice presumably dripping with delicious judgment, said, “You’re sending a message out to people saying, ‘It’s OK, stay fat, get diabetes, everybody die. Lose your fingers.'” While Dunham’s weight isn’t quite at that level, there is something almost admirable about Rivers having the gumption to point out that maybe being fat has been somewhat glamorized in more recent times.

Although Rivers’ criticism could have perhaps been delivered in a gentler manner, she wouldn’t be Joan Rivers if she spun the truth in a kind way. And at least someone had the good sense to finally say step up and say something. After all, do celebrities really have any excuse for being fat with all that available free time and money?
