In The Name of All That Is Holy & Italian, Do Not Remake La Dolce Vita

Now that Anita Ekberg is dead to join Fellini in rolling over in his grave, certain parties have now seen fit to ruin another classic. Homages to La Dolce Vita have been a thing in the recent past, with Nine and The Great Beauty being the most overt examples. But the Fellini family’s optioning of the rights to Italian production company AMBI indicates a far more sinister and less reverent remake.

According to Federico Fellini’s niece, Francesca Fellini, “We’ve been approached countless times and asked to consider everything from remakes and reimaginings to prequels and sequels. We knew it would take very special producers and compelling circumstances to motivate the family to allow rights to be optioned.” Maybe what was truly compelling was the amount of money offered.

Slated to be produced by Daniele Di Lorenzo, whose IMDb page is scant, to say the least, it is not yet known what exactly the premise of the film will be or how it plans to “reinvent” something as untouchably great as La Dolce Vita. When all is said and done, this is a clear cut case of one’s family stabbing him in the back for the benefit of a few alms.
