Vivienne Westwood Does Not Care About Poor People

Vivienne Westwood, who probably hasn’t been poor since the 1970s, has recently made a comment that’s shocked the polite status quo of London. After delivering a petition to Downing Street to promote a higher quality level in people’s food, a BBC interviewer pointed out to Westwood that not everyone can afford the expensive price points of organic fare. Westwood replied, “Eat less.”

Westwood then went on to say that the type of foods (poor) people are eating tend to make them fat anyway. Perhaps in her current station in life, as well as her advanced age, Westwood has lost touch with the reality of how scandalized most can become when referring to socioeconomic class–especially when the opinion is coming from someone affluent/renowned for selling opulent clothing.

To make matters worse, Westwood suggested following the advice of Russell Brand (never a good idea–just ask Katy Perry), who champions a constant mistrust of government. Sure, a healthy skepticism is to be expected, but to blame the government for the lack of organic food prevalence in the UK is a bit much. All in all, this is a right pickle Westwood’s got herself in, and a far cry from her chicer activist days posing as Margaret Thatcher on the cover of Tatler in 1989.
