The Aesthetic Similarities Between Shailene Woodley and Gaby Hoffmann

To the untrained eye, it might seem as though there is nothing aesthetically similar between Shailene Woodley and Gaby Hoffmann. The two share a ten year age difference and could not be more different in terms of the type of fare they’re both typically cast in (Woodley often goes for commercial fare like The Fault in Our Stars or Divergent, while Hoffmann keeps it real with projects like The Crystal Fairy and Transparent). And yet, the comparison is undeniably there.

It isn’t just the facial structure and the parallel hairstyles (especially when longer and sharing the same nondescript sort of dark brown) that immediately reminds one of the other, but it’s also the delivery of lines in films and interviews that conjure an instant resemblance. Both somewhat self-effacing, they possess the sort of poise one wouldn’t expect from someone who appears so approachable.

Though Hoffmann is a classic New York City kid, born to famous parents Viva (a Warhol superstar) and Anthony Herrera (a soap star on As the World Turns), Woodley is the other side of the coin, born in Southern California just outside of Los Angeles (which sounds chicer than where she’s from, which is Simi Valley). Not only that, but they both started acting at an early age, practically giving themselves to the business before any other options were even remotely possible. Will their aesthetic similarities one day lead to an onscreen collaboration? Doubtful, because then the universe might implode.
