Quit Playing Games With Charli XCX’s Heart–‘Cause Then She’ll Forfeit the Game

The third single from Charli XCX’s third album, Sucker (to be released December 15th), brings us a video that’s equally as empowering as the song. Opening with the type of exchange you would expect to see in an 80s movie (think Heathers during the scene where Veronica says, “I gotta motor”), Charli XCX gives her jock boyfriend the boot after he prattles on to his parents about all the hot girls who want to date him. XCX responds by saying, “We had a good run.”

She then proceeds to the bowling alley to meet up with a group of her friends who help her “cope” by sending bowling balls flying at pins with pictures of his head on them (don’t ask how they managed that). Her spiritedness is fueled by the invigoration of breaking up with someone she knew wasn’t right for her, even though she tried to ignore it for as long as possible. Plus, she’s got a lot of ring pops–and that’s what really matters most to a fun-loving girl.

Lyrics like, “Everything was wrong with you/So breaking up was easy to do/Hey, your friends think you’re fugly too,” add to Charli XCX’s defiant aura as she concludes the video by hammering in the face of her ex as he tries to apologize to her with his face framed in a doily. So yeah, don’t play games with this girl’s heart.
