Marxism and Paris Hilton

Although one wouldn’t immediately (or ever) associate Paris Hilton with Marxist policy, the famed socialite has certain tendencies toward the economist’s theories on class relations. However, instead of setting her sights on the concerns of the proletariat, Hilton is more concerned with the well-being of the bourgeoisie.

Keeping it bourgeois.
Keeping it bourgeois.

As an heiress, Hilton can’t help but take the reverse side of Marxism, championing all that is capitalistic and dripping with decadence. For her to comprehend the mindset of the proletariat, whose only means to gain necessary goods is by offering up their own hard labor, would be unfathomable.

The conflict between classes as highlighted in Marxism is made its most succinct where Hilton is concerned on the reality show The Simple Life. Poking fun at the idea of having to engage in everyday jobs like working in a restaurant, Hilton and fellow socialite, Nicole Richie, make their best attempt to exhibit some understanding of the proletariat. However, during its five season run, the show only managed to prove that you can take the girl out of the bourgeoisie, but you can’t take the bourgeoisie out of the girl.
