Jerry Seinfeld Essentially Uses “I Don’t Know Her” Defense About that Kesha Hug Refusal

It was the denial of affection heard ’round the world–or at least the few pockets of the globe that still pay attention to Jerry Seinfeld and Kesha (still reeling from her legal quagmire with Dr. Luke). In an exchange that personified awkwardness at David Lynch Foundation’s National Night of Laughter and Song in New York, Kesha pleaded with Seinfeld twice in her capacity as fan and fellow celebrity to give her a hug–even just “a little one.” But no, twice she asked and twice she was rebuffed.

“Yeah, no thanks,” was the short and final reply Seinfeld gave to a stunned Kesha as he continued to attempt engaging in his interview with radio host Tommy McFly. Perhaps not realizing the extent of his cold rejection, Seinfeld has felt compelled to explain that it was simply because, well, he doesn’t know her. That being said, Seinfeld added, “I’m 63. I don’t know every pop star, I don’t know everyone… When you get to be my age, and you’ve done a couple things, you have your own reality. In my reality, I don’t hug a total stranger. I have to meet someone, say hello. I have to start somewhere.” So maybe Kesha ought to buy the man a drink next time so he doesn’t find her behavior of rainbow-emanating beneficence to be so “off.” Just goes to show the many fundamental differences between those born in L.A. versus Brooklyn.
