By now, it’s evident that the most exciting thing to happen at the Time 100 Gala was Amy Schumer pretending to fall at the feet of Kanye West and Kim Kardashian, who remained completely stone-faced throughout the spectacle.
Perhaps Kanye was thinking, “Oh Yeezus, another white girl fan flinging herself at me” or perhaps he was thinking, “Damn, Kim’s pussy felt dry this morning.” Who knows? All that can be said is the duo was far more irritated by Schumer’s display than charmed. The rest of the world, on the other hand, has been delighted.
Schumer has thus proven herself to be every so-called A-list celeb’s worst nightmare, showcasing a lack of regard for the imaginary barrier of cool that these celebrities put up between themselves and others with her unexpected whimsy and penchant for the hyper-surreal. While other comediennes, like Tina Fey and Amy Poehler, prefer to keep their comedy controlled on the screen, Schumer is willing to take it to the next level with her boundary-pushing. Let’s hope her next move involves flashing Obama before he leaves office.
